CNN Newsletter hides spam-sending trojan

Here's a new take on an old trick that we should all be aware of by now.

The darker side of the web have once again decided to cash in on the morbid and are currently shipping an email bug that masquerades as a CNN newsletter containing amateur footage of the London bombings. Those opening the attachment will swiftly find their PCs turned into spam shipping zombies with a little help from an anonymous Trojan. The Trojan itself tracks down all the SMTP servers the PC in question is configured to use and then sets about bombarding them with spam to pass on to the masses.

MessageLabs are already on the case and have said that the virus isn't particularly widespread at the moment. Still, just to be safe, make sure you've got your anti-virus, firewall anti-spyware and anti-spam programs up to date.
